Westport Council on Aging
The primary function of the Westport Council on Aging is to identify and meet the needs of Westport’s elder population and inform the community of available services.
Project Lifesaver
Currently the Friends are involved with the Sheriff’s office to provide a service for the community called PROJECT LIFESAVER. The program provides a tracking device to be used by clients who may have dementia, autism or any person at risk of wandering. The program began as an Eagle Scout project that was taken over by the Friends once that funding ended. We provide the hardware and batteries for the devices. The maintenance and tracking are done by the Sherriff’s office. Candidates for the program are recommended by our Outreach department.
Stroke Buddies & Friends
Stroke Buddies & Friends was founded by Lisa Costa, who is a stroke survivor. She started the first support group with all participating members having a life altering event. This group gives members a voice and coping skills in the comfort of others that truly walk in their shoes. The group has been closely aligned since its inception with the Westport Council on Aging, where some of their meetings have been held.
Westport Education Foundation
Working with parents, teachers, students, neighbors and volunteers, the Westport Education Foundation raises private funds to enrich programs, support teachers and broaden horizons for students at all levels of the Westport Community Schools.
