It’s not how old you are. It’s how you are old.
Knowing how important fitness is for our wellbeing as we age, the Senior Center offers exercise classes for both men and women. Classes include Yoga, Cardio, Tai Chi, Stretch & Tone, Fitness Focus and Balance and Bones. There is also a Walking Group for seniors whose members meet weekly and walk locally. The Friends support and promote the Walk/MA Challenge sponsored by the MA Councils on Aging. Westport residents are encouraged to sign up for a walking challenge from May 1 to October 31 and earn chances to win prizes for themselves and the Westport Council on Aging.
The Friends recently co-sponsored Walk/Run for Westport, an opportunity for old and young to lace up their walking shoes and enjoy a brisk October morning in our beautiful town. From 2010 to 2016 the Friends and the Westport Education Foundation volunteers sponsored an annual Walk for Wesport, when over two hundred walkers enjoyed a sunny day of walking at Westport Harbor.
Walking is an excellent fitness exercise for all age groups with easy accessibility and enjoyment at many fitness levels. The Friends promote events to encourage this activity. Watch our website for future events.
