Board Executives

Carol Skarbo

President

Carol grew up in Westport and as an adult moved to Alaska where she and her husband lived for 20+ years. She has a BA from the University of Alaska and a Masters from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her past careers have included teaching high school math and IT Project Management at large, non-profit organizations. Carol has been a member of the Friends Board for 6 years, serving as Treasurer/Bookkeeper for 5. When she is not participating in Friends’ activities, you may find her working on the Senior Center grounds as one of our volunteer gardeners.

Louise Gerard

Co-Vice President

Louise has been a Westport resident since 1974. Fun fact: her great, great grandmother and great grandmother were both born in Westport. She has been a board member for one year. Louise raised two daughters in Westport, and three of her five grandsons attended school in town. She has a BA in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters in Special Education from Bridgewater College.  She was a special education teacher for 27 years and was an office manager before that.

Karen Crossman

Co-Vice President

Prior to moving to Westport 31/2 years ago, Karen lived in Plymouth, MA for 43 years where she raised her three children. She belonged to the COA there and did volunteer work for the Plymouth Philharmonic and the art center. She has been a nurse for almost 50 years. Her most recent job was working for a visiting nurse association in Plymouth. She retired about 5 years ago.

Kathleen Corbeil

Secretary

Kathleen grew up in Westport and raised her three sons here. She has a BA in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, a Masters in Special Education from Bridgewater State College, and a Specialist in Education from Simmons College. She was a classroom teacher then literacy specialist for 24 years. She has been a Friends member for one year and currently serves as Secretary. Supporting the Council on Aging as a Board member has personal significance. Both of her parents were dedicated volunteers who then, many years later, benefited from the varied activities, events, support services and resources provided by knowledgeable and experienced staff at the center.

Sue DeCosta

Treasurer

Sue grew up in Westport and received her BS in Accounting from UMass Dartmouth (SMU). While her three children were young, she moved to Glastonbury, CT with her husband. After nine years away, they decided to return home to Westport in time for her children to graduate WHS. She has spent over 30 years working in public accounting before retiring. She also has been active with Westport Lions Club, holding many board positions. She looks forward to continuing her community service as treasurer for the FWCOA.
