The Friends of the Westport Council on Aging is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It is governed by an Executive Board of officers: President, Co-Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer. The remaining Board members serve on various ad hoc committees and help to plan events and programs. The Board is an all-volunteer Board.
Our financial base is sustained by a town-wide solicitation for funds via an annual mail appeal. Other fundraising activities include the Walk/Run for Westport co-sponsored by the Westport Community Schools, the Lees community receipt program and various investments and grants. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
The Friends, in conjunction with the COA Director and the WCOA Board, determine where funds are needed most. This may be to support programs such as Social Day, Community Outreach or to provide programs and events such as the Annual Veterans Breakfast or a summer barbecue. We also support physical upgrades to the building and grounds and major projects such as purchase of a vehicle
